AG Tommy Thomas’s allegations, Muhammad Adib’s death will be investigated by special teams –PM Ismail

PUTRAJAYA OCT.9: Investigation on the allegations made by the former Attorney General, Tan Sri Tommy Thomas was one of the three decisions made by the Cabinet Ministers in a meeting held on 8th October 2021.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the Cabinet Ministers have also agreed to form a special investigation work team to make a research before any action is taken on the allegations made by Tommy Thomas in his book “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.”

Ismail said, the special team will be chaired by the Former Chief Justice who will be appointed shortly. Meanwhile the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) and the Attorney General Chambers (AGC) will act as the secretariat.

“The special investigation team among others is aimed at investigating on Tommy Thomas’s allegations on the abuse of power issue in the appointment of judges, the extreme intervention of executive body in the judiciary body, selected prosecution and political nature and the breach of secrecy oath,” Ismail said in a statement here today.

The statement added, the Cabinet meeting has also agreed that an investigation should be conducted on the death of a fire rescuer staff, Allahyarham Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
“The Cabinet meeting agreed that a special committee should be formed to ensure a comprehensive investigation, transparent and a reasonable defense on the death of Muhammad Adib Mohd. Kassim.

“The committee will be chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and also the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun,” Ismail said.

The Prime Minister added, the establishment of the special committee is to prove that the government is committed to get justice and subsequently the person who caused the death of Adib will be taken to the court of justice. Adib, 24, was the staff from the Emergency Aid Services of the Fire Brigade and Rescue Unit, Subang Jaya.

Ismail said, another decision made by the Cabinet Ministers was reviewing the law on the Pedra Branca/Pulau Batu Puteh case.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the Cabinet Ministers agreed that a special team will be formed to make a complete, detailed and propose options that are suitable by getting opinions from international law experts.

“This effort is aimed at reviewing the related law relating to the application review and the interpretation of the Pedra Branca/Pulau Batu Putih. The special team will be chaired by the former Attorney General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali,” Ismail said.

The Prime Minister said, the Cabinet Ministers also made a decision to get the early legal opinions on the legal actions under “Tort of Misfeasance” on any parties that had been negligent and made mistakes as a result for not continuing the review application and interpretation of Pedra Branca/Pulau Batu Puteh. –Malaysia World News
