PUTRAJAYA JULY 5: Adolescents aged 12 years and above with underlying medical condition such as chronic lungs, bronchitis, heart disease and juvenile diabetics will be vaccinated once the school session starts.
Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba said, besides the students, teachers, school staffs and support staff such as school bus drivers will also be vaccinated.
Dr. Adham said, the vaccination for the adolescents will be implemented at the later stage when the adult population have completed their inoculations under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP).
He said, the vaccination will only be implemented when the data of Sinovac and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines from other countries have sufficiently been collected by the Malaysian experts in doses and vaccines for adolescents.
“The doses for adults and adolescents are different and their ages will also be taken into consideration,” Dr. Adham said in a press conference with the presence of NIP Coordinating Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin here today.
Earlier he said, as of 4th July 2021, 122,335 children have been infected with COVID-19 with 38,849 aged 13 to 17 that are 15 per cent from the total number of cases nationwide.
Regarding the deaths among COVID-19 victims, Dr, Adham said, in Malaysia the deaths were common among those in the age group of 60 and above while children below 10 years old made up 0.2 per cent. Meanwhile 80 per cent deaths were those between 10 to 19 years old with at least one underlying health condition.
Dr. Adham also highlighted that for adolescents above 12 years with underlying medical condition only “comirnaty” vaccine from Pfizer will be used in Malaysia. –Malaysia World News
