KUALA LUMPURE: A scammer pretending to be minister Nancy Shukri contacted the Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil in an attempt to defraud him.

Fahmi said he had received a WhatsApp message from an unknown person claiming to be the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

“This morning, I received a message on WhatsApp from a person who introduced herself as Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and using her profile photo,” the Minister said in a Ramadan Iftar with the media last night.

” I suspected the sender from the word ‘Assalamualaikum’ that she used and I immediately contacted Nancy, ” he added.

To his surprise Nancy said it was not she and that was not her number.

“YB Fahmi, that is not my number, the one that you got, that is not me’,” Nancy told him.

Fahmi urged Malaysians to make sure to verify identities of those who contact them in order to avoid getting scammed.

“First verify and check very well the identity of the person who contacted you. If unsure, don’t share, don’t reply.

” If you don’t know them, don’t continue the conversation.”

The Minister also advises Malaysians being stalked by scammers to quickly contact the government’s National Scam Response Centre’s 997 hotline.
