PETALING JAYA: Former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak expressed his confidence in Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (Tok Mat) who has been handed over the duties of the party president.
“He has the vision, leadership qualities and the trust of the party leadership and members to stabilise and rebuild Umno,” he said yesterday on his official Facebook page on Wednesday (Dec 19).
Meantime, he expressed his unwillingness to take over Zahid Hamidi and become the opposition leader as suggested by some Umno members.
“As I have explained before, my current priority is to clear my name of the charges I am facing, continuing to voice out the interests of the people, focus on the rakyat’s problems and provide explanations on issues that affect the rakyat and the country,” he said.
However, he said he is always ready to help and support Umno.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam yesterday suggested that Najib Razak would make a better opposition leader after Zahid Hamidi stepped aside,
Lokman has also started a Facebook poll asking Netizens who would they prefer as temporary Opposition leader: Khairy or Najib.
“Yesterday when I suggested that Dato Sri Najib Razak be made Opposition leader while Umno president goes on leave, KJ said I was dumb,” Lokman said.
“If the vote was yours, who would you pick as temporary Opposition leader?” he asked.
The poll has earned more than 8,000 votes so far with 73% having voted for Najib.
