71,806 divorce cases recorded nationwide between January 2020 and June this year

IPOH: Each day, at least 20 Muslim couples get divorced in Perak since Covid-19 pandemic hit the state.

Manjoi assemblyman Datuk Asmuni Awi, who is also Perak Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) chairman, said statistics from the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Department showed a total of 71,806 divorce cases were recorded nationwide between  January 2020 and June this year, equivalent to 132 cases per day, NST reported.

 
He said this could be due Covid-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO) that led to financial stress, job loss and business closures that affected the people’s income.
