5 new ministers appointed in the Unity Government cabinet reshuffle

KUALA LUMPUR: Five new ministers involved in the Unity Government cabinet reshuffle as announced by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim early today had taken their oaths for the post and loyalty and to keep secrets before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara at 3pm, Tuesday.

Those involved includes Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad , Minister of Human Resources, Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Plantations and Commodity, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Minister of Finance II Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Also present at the oath taking session were M. Kulasegaran, (Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department – Law and Institutional Reformation); Datuk Seri Dr.

Noraini Ahmad (Deputy Minister Women Development, Family and Community); Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan (Deputy Minister Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives); Wong Kah Who (Deputy Minister Education); and Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan (Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department –Religious Affairs).
The oath taking session took place at Istana Negara from 3.pm until 3.30pm.

Meanwhile, the former Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar said he respects the decision made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following his name has been dropped in the cabinet reshuffle today.

“I respect PM’s (decision) as I have done my best. I would like to thank all the Ministry of Human Resources staff for their excellent cooperation with me,” said the Batu Gajah Member of Parliament as reported by NST.

Before the cabinet reshuffle, Sivakumar had faced repeated calls to resign after an aide and several senior ministry officers were arrested over corruption allegations early this year.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement said, the number of cabinet ministers increased from 28 to 31 and deputy ministers from 27 to 29 while the total numbers increased from 55 to 60 people.

“However on the whole the number is still low compared to 70 people appointed in the Cabinet line-up in the earlier administration,” said the statement.

In the cabinet reshuffle, the Unity Government has also appointed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as the Minister of Energy Transition and Public Utilities as well as the minister responsible for Sabah and Sarawak affairs. Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is appointed as the Minister of Finance II while the Deputy Finance Minister is Lim Hui Ying. She was the former Deputy Minister of Education.

Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is now the Foreign Minister while Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is appointed as the new Minister of Defence. Former Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir is now the Minister of Higher Education which was formerly held by Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

However Deputy Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan is now the Deputy Minister of Works while the Minister of Communications is Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil and former Health Minister, Dr. Zaliha Mustafa is now the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).

The Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living is now Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali who was formerly the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister’s post was vacant since the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub in July 2023.-Malaysia World News
