KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was conferred the “King Hamad Order for Development Award” by the Ruler of Bahrain, King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa at the Shaikh Hamad Palace, Bahrain on Friday.

According to the Malaysian Ambassador to Bahrain, Agus Salim Yusof, the Prime Minister was the first foreign leader to be conferred the newly created Bahrain’s highest award.

Meanwhile, the Defence Minister and Minister with Special Functions, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was conferred the “Medal of First Degree” from King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa.

Najib was on his three-day official visit to Bahrain accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

In Bahrain, Najib and his delegates attended a dinner hosted by King Hamad while in the afternoon they witnessed Bahrain’s National Day Ceremony held at Sakhir Palace.   

According to the Foreign Ministry’s statement, the visit would strengthen the friendly ties between the two countries. The total trade between Malaysia and Bahrain from January to September this year stood at RM805.73 million.
