PUTRAJAYA JAN.27: Johor contributes the highest number of new COVID-19 today with 1,069 cases together with six out of 17 new clusters occurring at the work places in the state followed by Kuala Lumpur four, Selangor three, Sabah one, Perak one and the remaining two were transmitted in the community.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the 17 clusters with 988 new COVID-19 cases had brought the daily record of 3,680 adding to the cumulative total to 194,114 with 42,389 active cases.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, from the new cases, 3,674 were local transmissions including 2,384 affecting the Malaysians (64.9%) while 1,290 non-citizens (35.1%). Six were imported cases involving four Malaysians and two non-citizens.
“From the new cases, 314 had been admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) with 122 needed respiratory aids. Seven dead cases were recorded bringing the death toll to 707 or 0.26%.
“Today 1,858 cases had been discharged adding to the cumulative total to 11,018 or 77.8%,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.
However the deaths today were involving three cases from Selangor, two from Perak and one each from Sarawak and Sabah.
Johor had the highest of 1,069 cases (29.0%) and from the total 961 cases (89,9%) were from clusters and close contact screenings carried out on the grounds. Selangor follows with 822 cases (22.3%) and Kuala Lumpur with 698 cases (19.0%).
Meanwhile, 64 cases (1.7%) are related to clusters in the lock ups, immigration detention depots and prisons including Jalan Harapan Prison (33), Tembok Renggam (16), Damai Pelangi (9), DTI Sepang (2), Tembok Bukit Besi (2), Tembok Sungai Udang (1) and Jalan Sungai Jelok Prison (1).
The new clusters in Johor had contributed 683 cases and it came from Parit Lanjut cluster, Industri Grisek, Jalan Trus, Jalan Medini, Tengah Tiga and Pengerang Utara cluster. Selangor had 67 from the new clusters and it came from Jalan Mutiara, Tapak Bina Tanjung and Persiaran Perkilangan.
Meanwhile Kuala Lumpur had 187 from new clusters and contributed by Tapak Bina Persiaran Tecoma, Jalan Danau, Jalan Yahya and Jalan Pudu cluster. Sabah had six from the Jalan Sulaman cluster while Perak had Jalan Seri and Jalan Pengkalan with 43 cases. The Bedayan cluster in Sarawak contributed two cases.
States with new COVID-19 cases today were Selangor (822), Sabah (295), Kuala Lumpur (698), Johor (1,069), Negeri Sembilan (112), Pulau Pinang (101), Perak (181), Kedah (76), Sarawak (70), Melaka (63), Kelantan (60), Pahang (42), Labuan (1), Terengganu (68), Putrajaya (19) and Perlis (3). –Malaysia World New
