PUTRAJAYA DEC.23: The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia has affirmed that as of December 22, 2021, 342 communication towers have been affected by the floods in Selangor and out of which 153 towers are back in operations while 189 are still under repair.

Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said, the Ministry through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is cooperating with the telecommunication companies in the efforts to repair the towers that have been impacted by the big floods that hit several states nationwide including critical areas in Selangor end of last week.

Annuar added, among the constraints faced by MCMC and telecommunication companies are the locations of the towers could not be accessed and the electricity supply has been cut off by the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for the safety of the local people.

“The repair works have been active and the communication towers that have been impacted by the floods are expected to be back in operation shortly while the transmitters at the affected areas will be reactivated once TNB returns the electricity supply.

“MCMC is also discussing with the amateur radio association aimed to get the assistance of the association in setting up alternative communication channel in the affected areas.

“Now several amateur radio stations are in operations and placed in several locations that have been hit by the floods,” Anuar said in a statement here today.

Annuar then call the people to be patient while mitigation works have been going on actively to ensure all the residents will get back the telecommunication services as usual. – Malaysia World News
