KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Defence plans to build more than 31,000 housing units for Malaysian armed forces families at 78 selected locations in Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak by 2030.

Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said, the plan has been going on for two years since the ministry and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) conducted researches and stakeholders have been identified before the blueprint of the housing agenda is launched.

“This is the first blueprint since Malaysia had its independent 60 years ago. I am very proud of it. The plan is very transparent and way ahead where the people can see a hope.

“MAF has told me how many houses are needed for its personnel and they have worked it out and will manage the project by 2030. It will be passed on to the future generation,” he said this after chairing the Ministry of Defence’s Housing Agenda Meeting at Wisma Perwira here Wednesday afternoon.

Hishammuddin also said, the ministry had presented the blueprint to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for three times, and three laboratories were established and retreats were held in Genting Highlands and Subang in order to have a holistic housing agenda.

He added, they were five core agendas established by the ministry and MAF. One of them was relating to welfare agenda for the personnel and army veterans.

Under the welfare agenda, he said, priorities are given to housing, medical and health, education and training, and cost of living.

Hishammuddin also said, these priorities are made so that the army personnels and the veterans can see that the ministry is very transparent in helping them.

Once the housing agenda is ready and the blueprint is launched, he will announce the prices and the value of the houses depending on the locations.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Defence through the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) is also planning to build more affordable houses (RMM) especially for the MAF veterans under the Civil Servants 1 Malaysia Housing Scheme (PPA1M).

This will be an addition to more than 2,000 units at Taman LTAT Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur and 303 RMM units at Segari Perak. – Malaysia World News
