PUTRAJAYA: Thirty Malaysian citizens arrived safely at Port Sudan, at 8.05 pm after going through the journey covering 1,233 km. in 30 hours with the help of Special Force Ops Sudan Malaysia, 24th April 2023.
Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir said, the Malaysian Special Force had also helped 26 other nationalities in the evacuation process namely the Philippines one person; Cambodia (6); Singapore (14); Thailand (1); United States of America (2); Palestine (1); Sudan (1).
“Two other Malaysians working with the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) at Abyei were not involved in the evacuation process as it would be done by the United Nations.
“We are in the process of taking out all the 56 people from Port Sudan via two options including air route by chartered airplane or via sea by ship. This will depend on which option will get the fastest and immediate approval from the parties concerned,” Zambry said in a statement.
In another statement, Zamry said, the evacuees would be transported to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, or Cairo, Egypt before being flown back to Malaysia.
Yesterday Zamry said, the mission to rescue Malaysians who were trapped in Khartoum after clashes broke out was underway via a land route, as quoted by NST. – Malaysia World News
