Government to continue legal actions in ICJ on Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan case – PM Ismail

PUTRAJAYA OCT.13: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, after listening to the Review of the Law on the Sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan case that was presented by the Special Task Force, the Cabinet Ministers have proposed to continue the legal actions in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) relating to this issue.

Ismail also said, the Cabinet meeting was also informed that there was a possibility of negligence of the seventh Prime Minister,Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad when he had missed the opportunity to file the application to review the decision of the ICJ in 2008 and request on the interpretation on Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan after Tun Dr. Mahathir made a decision not to continue the application to review and interpret the judgement on 11 June 2018.

The Prime Minister added, the government had also decided to take necessary actions to defend the sovereignty of the country. The government’s directions and improvements proposed by the Special Task Force via the two reports are transparent, neutral and inclusive with the consideration of the result analysis, studies and observations by members of the Special Task Force.

“The implementation of the Special Task Force as a whole had confirmed the government’s commitments to solve the related issues in the best possible ways for the sake of the prosperity of Keluarga Malaysia,” Ismail said.

Earlier the Prime Minister said, two Special Task Forces had presented the Investigation Reports on the Allegations in the Book “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness”, written by Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and the Review of the Law on the Sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan case at the Cabinet Ministers’ Meeting on 30th Sept. and 7th Oct.2022.

“Various approaches had been implemented by the two Special Task Forces such as studying and reviewing the documentations and related materials, discussions/meetings and job visits in the country and abroad, consultation services together with the legal experts, hydrography expert abroad and interview with individuals that had been identified to implement the job that had been fixed in the term of reference,” Ismail said.

Meanwhile, the government has agreed to declassify and expose the report of the Special Investigation Team on the Allegations in the Book “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness” written by the former Attorney General, Tan Sri Tommy Thomas.-Malaysia World News
