PUTRAJAYA: The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 (ITU PP22) that will be attended by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa in Bucharest, Romania from 26th Sept.-14th Oct. 2022 is very important as Malaysia will compete to win a Council Member seat in ITU for Territory E (Asia and Australasia) for the term 2023-2026.
Annuar said, a special reception will be held on 29th Sept.2022 where he and the Malaysian delegation will use the space and time in Bucharest to meet the counterparts and delegations from ITU member countries to seek support and votes for Malaysia to win the ITU Council Member seat.
“Malaysia’s direct involvement in the ITU PP22 and as a Council Member of ITU will give a big impact on the local expertise that could benefit via the telecommunication development and ICT programmes of ITU especially to the industry players in the local telecommunication and ICT sectors.
“They will receive positive impacts via structured government policies including opportunities to explore the latest technology and provides the best services to the Malaysian Family,” Annuar said in a statement.
The Minister added, more than 181 countries will be attending the three weeks conference. As the Head of Delegation to the ITU PP22, I will be involved in several bilateral meetings and discussion sessions relating to telecommunications, digital economy, radio and regulation relating to the functions and Malaysia’s contribution in this sector.
“I will deliver a speech at the Ministers’ Special Session (Ministerial Roundtable) on 25th Sept. 2022 and also deliver policy statement during the Plenary Session on 27th Sept. 2022,” Annuar said.
The Minister is accompanied by the Deputy Chief Secretary (Telecommunication Infrastructure and Digital Economy), Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) Ma. Sivanesan, Interim Chairman Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, Malaysian Ambassador to Romania, Tengku Datuk Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin and representatives from telecommunication network providers in Malaysia such as Telekom Malaysia, Maxis, Digi and MEASAT. –Malaysia World News
