PUTRAJAYA FEB.24: Negeri Sembilan has the highest with 1,392 new COVID-19 cases contributing to 3,545 new cases today with a cumulative total of 291,774 while 30,677 are active cases.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, from 3,544 new cases, 1,544 (43.6%) were involving the citizens while 2,000 (56.4%) were non-citizens with one imported case involving non-citizen.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, 3,331 cases had been discharged with a cumulative total of 260,009 or 89.1% while 189 cases had been admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 88 needed respiratory assistance.
“Twelve death cases were recorded today bringing the death toll to a cumulative total of 1,088 or 0.37%,”said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.
Dr. Noor Hisham added, the deaths included seven cases (7) in Kuala Lumpur, two (2) cases in Selangor, and one case each in Sabah, Terengganu and Penang. The deaths were 11 citizens and one non-citizen.
Meanwhile Negeri Sembilan had the highest daily record today with 1,392 cases (39.3%) followed by Selangor with 581 cases (16.4%) and Kuala Lumpur with 381 cases (10.7%).
The sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in Negeri Sembilan was due to the active detection of the Sungai Gadut Industrial cluster. The cluster was announced on February 22, 2021 following a targeted screening tests had been carried out in the workplace involving a wood product manufacturing factory located in Sungai Gadut Industrial Area, KM 11, Seremban.
“Today, 1,432 cases had been recorded in this cluster involving 318 citizens and 1,114 were non-citizens,’’ said Dr. Noor Hisham.
Dr. Noor Hisham added, 29 cases(0.8%) reported were related to clusters in the prisons and immigration detention depots involving Sungai Udang Wall cluster (14), Pengkalan Chepa Wall (12), Telok Mas (2) and Taiping Wall (1).
Regarding the eight new clusters recorded today, Dr. Noor Hisham said, seven clusters were formed at the workplaces and it includes three in Johor namely Moss Industry, Jalan Ulu Choh and Jalan Dato Yunus while the two clusters in Penang were Lorong Bakau and Vista Hilir.
The one new cluster formed at the workplace in Selangor is the Sixth Street while Bidor Market is in Perak. However the Sinsingon cluster in Sabah is involving the community.
The states with new COVID-19 cases today are Selangor (581), Sabah (105), Johor (318), Kuala Lumpur (381), Negeri Sembilan (1,392), Penang (95), Perak (188), Sarawak (353), Kedah (17), Melaka (26), Kelantan (53), Pahang (8), Terengganu (22), Labuan (5) and Putrajaya (1) –Malaysia World News.
