KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim ‘s former research assistant Muhammed Yusoff Rawther has filed a suit against PKR president Anwar Ibrahim on claims of sexual assault.
The opposition leader’s lawyer said Anwar Ibrahim will challenge the suit for alleged sexual assault.
“We just received the writ and statement of claim today. We will fight it accordingly,” Ranjit Singh from the legal firm Messrs Ranjit Singh & Yeoh told FMT.
The plaintiff, Yusoff, 28, alleged the sexual assault took place on Oct 2, 2018 at the residence of Anwar, 73 in Segambut.
He alleged it happened when he was asked by Anwar’s private secretary, Shukri Saad, to deliver to the defendant the text for a speech in conjunction with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi organised by the Indian High Commission.
According to Malaysiakini, Counsel Mahajoth Singh who is representing Yusoff (above) said the writ and statement of claim were submitted today to legal firm Ranjit Singh & Yeoh at its office in Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.
“The court also set Sept 9 for further case management,” he told reporter today after case management via e-review before High Court deputy registrar Idamasliza Maarof.
The plaintiff made a police report against Anwar on Dec 7, 2019 and took a polygraph test at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman on Dec 17.
