Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar urged all levels of society to be committed to the ‘self-lockdown’ recommendation to break the chain of COVID-19 infection, as the country reported 7,478 new Covid-19 cases today.

“More than 7,400 cases today alone (May 26). This is very worrying.

“We need almost everyone to stay at home.

“The virus does not move, but is spread through the movement of people.

“ Don’t be selfish, think of others too!,” the sultan said on his official Facebook page here today

Everyone must be disciplined and committed, to prevent us all from falling into a worse situation. The government should also consider a full ‘lockdown’ if Covid’s figures show no sign of declining, he added.

His Majesty also expressed sympathy to all front line personnel, especially medical staff, who have to bear the huge burden brought by this virus.

“Their fatigue and anxiety are clearly visible, but they still do their job as well as possible. Remember, COVID-19 is not the only disease they have to deal with.

“Have pity on them. We must all unite to play a role to reduce their burden and break the chain of infection for the good of us all, ” he said.

His Majesty also expressed fear of the emergence of the new variants of concern.

“The emergence of new variants is also very scary, which can now be carried by air (airborne).

“If the infection continues to spread, I am worried that there will be more variants of this dangerous virus,” he said.
