1,870 new COVID-19 cases with Johor recording the highest infections

PUTRAJAYA DEC.30: Johor for the first time has its highest daily record of 607 contributing to 1,870 new COVID-19 cases today and adding to the total cumulative of 110,485 with 22,562 active cases.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has informed that 745 COVID-19 cases had been discharged bringing the cumulative total to 87,460 or 79.2% from the grand total of cases.

Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, from 607 cases in Johor, 578 (95.2%) were from the clusters and close contact screenings that had been actively carried out on the ground.

“The surge of COVID-19 cases in Johor was due to the Tembok Choh cluster with a record of 374 cases (61.6%) and Selangor had 472 cases (25.2%) while Sabah had 280 cases (15.0%),” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement here today.

On another development, 402 cases (21.5%) reported were related to clusters in the lock up, immigration detention depot and prison affecting Tembok Choh (374 cases), Jalan Harapan Prison (8), Pagar Bentong (6),Tembok Mempaga (4), Pagar Siput (3), Tembok Gajah (2) and Hala Mutiara (1).

Meanwhile, 131 positive COVID-19 cases had been admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) with 62 cases needed respiratory aids.
However, six death cases were recorded bringing the death toll to 463 cases or 0.42% from the grand total.

MOH in its statement added, eight new clusters had been formed today including three clusters in Kuala Lumpur namely Jalan Stesen Construction Site with 54 cases, Berjaya Slot recorded nine cases and Jalan Nicholas had six cases.

On the other hand, the Tembok Choh affects the districts of Johor Bahru, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Kulai and Mersing in Johor. From 1,020 individuals who had been screened tested, 382 were detected with positive COVID-19 cases.

The Broga Contruction Site cluster was formed in the district of Hulu Langat, Selangor where 64 cases were detected with positive COVID-19 from 318 individuals who had been screened tested.

The Gerbang Pongsu cluster affects the districts of Kerian and Kinta in Perak where eight were detected with positive COVID-19 cases after 53 individuals went for screen tests.
In Bentong, Pahang the Damai Ketari cluster had 21 COVID-19 cases after 65 individuals were screened tested until 30th Dec.2020.

However the Alor cluster involving the districts of Kota Setar in Kedah and the district of Titiwangsa and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur had recorded 20 cases after 33 individuals wetre screened tested until 30th Dec.2020.

The states contributing to new COVID-19 cases include Johor with 607 cases, Selangor (472), Sabah (280), Kuala Lumpur (219), Penang (69), Kelantan (56), Pahang (48), Perak (48), Kedah (23), Melaka (8), Terengganu (2), Sarawak (1) and Putrajaya (1). –Malaysia World News
