Selangor leads the highest number of COVID-19 cases for eight days consecutively – Dr. Noor Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR DEC 23:Five new clusters including two in Kuala Lumpur had been formed at the work places while in Kedah and Perak the corona virus had infected the detainees and in Sabah it had affected the community contributing to the daily record of 1,348 new COVID-19 cases with the cumulative total of 98,737.

Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, 18,279 cases were active with 710 had been discharged adding to the cumulative total to 80,014 cases or 81.0% from the grand total of cases.

He said, Selangor maintains its highest daily new COVID-19 cases for eight days consecutively with 535 cases today (39.7%). From that, 363 cases (67.9%) were from clusters and close contact screenings carried out actively on the ground.

“Similar actions were done in Kuala Lumpur with 226 cases (16.8%) and Sabah with 189 cases (14.0%).

“However 193 cases (14.3%) are related to the clusters in the lock ups, prisons and immigration detention depots involving Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (123 cases), Tembok Gajah (56), Kolam Air (8), Tembok (5), Hala Mutiara (1).

“Up to date 102 positive COVID-19 cases were admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) with 44 cases needed respiratory aids,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here today.

Meanwhile five were reported dead adding to the cumulative total to 444 cases or 0.45% from the grand total of cases.

The five new clusters formed today included the Jalan Panah Construction Site affecting the district of Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur. This cluster involved a work place where 1,000 individuals were screened tested in which 21 were detected with positive COVID-19 until 23rd Dec.2020.

The Menara Wang cluster occurred in the district of Lembah Pantai,Cheras, Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, district of Petaling, Klang, Sepang and Hulu Langat in Selangor and district of Maran and Kuantan in Pahang. Until 23rd Dec. 293 individuals had been screened tested out of which 23 had been detected with positive COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile the Saga cluster involves the district of Tenom and Keningau in Sabah Until 23rd Dec.2020 , 298 individuals had been screened tested out of which 16 people had been infected with the coronas virus.

The Kolam Air cluster was affecting the district of Kota Setar and Kubang Pasu in Kedah. The indexs case for this cluster was case 81862 who had been infected with positive COVID-19 on 12th Dec. through the screening of detainees. Until 23rd Dec.2020, 84 individuals had been screened out of which 14 were detected with positive COVID-19.

On the other hand, the Hala Mutiara cluster was formed in the district of Kinta in Perak. The indexs case for this cluster was case 81,862 which was reported to have been infected with COVID-19 on 12th Dec. via screening of detainees. Until 23rd Dec.2020, 84 individuals had been screened out of which 14 cases had been infected with positive COVID-19.

The states with COVID-19 include Selangor with the highest number of cases (535), Kuala Lumpur (226), Sabah (189), Negeri Sembilan (31), Johor (118), Penang (43), Perak (8), Kedah (14), Labuan (2), Sarawak (4), Pahang (45), Melaka (124), Kelantan (4), Terengganu (1) and Putrajaya (4). –Malaysia World News
