KUALA LUMPUR DEC 14: The former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said the opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not in contact with him and as such he could not discuss on the latest political situation in the country.
Dr. Mahathir said, Anwar is made as the opposition leader but other parties can do what they like and need not have to pledge and support him.
The former Prime Minister said that in response to a question of whether he is collaborating with Anwar that claims he has the support from Members of Parliament (MPs) from others parties by signing the statutory declaration (SD).
“Last time I had 100% support from the MPs via the SD but when given the choice, the situation is different. So in this case SD does not count.
“It is the question of whether the MPs want something to be done for the people and the country or just to concentrate on their parties. They should listen to what the majority wants,” said Dr. Mahathir in a joint press conference with UMNO Advisory Board Chairman, Tengku Razaleigh Tengku Mohd. Hamzah held here today.
Asked if he would cooperate with former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak if he gets back the government, Dr. Mahathir said: “I will never have any cooperation with Najib.
The Langkawi MP added, before Perikatan Nasional was formed he was invited to be the Prime Minister (during Pakatan Harapan administration) and the President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he could accept Najib to form the government.
“I said a government that relies on the support of Datuk Seri Najib is a government I can never accept,” Dr. Mahathir reiterated.
To a question of whether he would accept the support from Najib and UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi if the 2021 Budget would not be passed in the Dewan Rakyat and subsequently leading to the collapse of Parikatan Nasional (PN) Government, Dr. Mahathir said, they can support but they will not be members of the government if he gets to form the government.
Asked whether he could turn Malaysia into “Asian Tiger” like before, Dr. Mahathir said: “I don’t think anybody is qualified. Following the new norms everybody has to put on mask and cannot be close together.
“As a doctor I know how to handle the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Meanwhile Tengku Razaleigh said, he did not take part in the debate of the Budget 2021 and as such he will not vote for it in the Dewan Rakyat. –Malaysia World News
