Malaysia recorded 52 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 52 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday (Sept 20), with Sabah recording the highest number of 36 adding to the cumulative total to 10,219 cases.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, out of the 36 cases in Sabah, 27 were from Lahad Datu cluster, two from Selamat cluster while one new case each from Pulau and Bakau clusters.

Meanwhile, Semporna recorded one case and three cases at Hospital Lahad Datu and another case detected during a pre-work screening.

From the 52 new cases, Dr. Noor Hisham said, 40 were locally transmitted involving 26 Malaysians and 14 non citizens.

“Out of the 52 new cases, 12 cases were imported and involved three Malaysians and nine non-citizens. They were infected overseas including India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Yemen, and Russia,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement here on Sept.20 .

In Penang, one new case was detected from the new Ara cluster while Kedah had three cases detected in the community screening involving an area under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO)

However, Dr. Noor Hisham said, there is no death case today (Sunday) bringing the death toll remaining at 130 or 1.27% from the cumulative total.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, 40 patients have recovered bringing the cumulative total to 9,355 or 91.55% from the cumulative total number of patients discharged since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Director-General of Health added, 10 patients, have been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with two requiring respiratory aids while 734 active cases are undergoing treatment in the hospitals nationwide.-Malaysia World News
