KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has allowed the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia’s (IRBM) application for the direct judgment over the income tax claims amounting to RM1.69 billion on the former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
With the court’s decision, Najib has to pay RM1.69 billion to IRBM.
The direct judgment is when the court made its verdict without trial and witnesses will not be called to give a statement in the court.
Prior to that on June 22, Judge Ahmad Bache had postponed the decision on IRBM’s application after hearing the arguments and statements from IRBM and Najib’s lawyers as reported by Malaysiakini.
The summon claims Najib to pay RM1.69 billion with a 5% interest rate starting from the notice of assessments, payment of losses, payment of costs, and other reliefs depending on the court’s judgment.
The claim for income tax payment on Najib was from 2011 until 2017.
The government has filed the summon on Najib on June 25, 2019. –Malaysia World News
