KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 —Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today pointed that in order for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia, he has to acquire support from the Malays and win the general election.

Unfortunately, Former Prime Minister alleged, the PKR president is not suitable to be the prime minister as he is not “popular” among the Malays.

“He is not very popular with the Malays.

“It has been shown that the support of the Malays is very important for any party to win the election.

“And because he’s not very popular, he needs somebody who is the leader of the Malays to help him win the election,” Mahathir told US-based CNBC’s Street Signs Asia during an online interview yesterday.

The Langkawi MP also claimed that without him, PKR or Pakatan Harapan (PH) would have never won the general election.

“It was after I joined them, they got the support from the Malays and won the election. It was a big achievement as the government didn’t change for 60 years,” he said.

PH came to power in 2018 after Dr Mahathir joined the party. And they lost power after Dr Mahathir resigned as prime minister.
