PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health is investigating the cause of the six new COVID-19 infections at a Cheras flat that might be due to the visiting activities before and during Hari Raya on May 24.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the six infected that formed the new cluster include three residents from the flat while the other three were their close contacts and non-residents.

Dr Noor Hisham said the first case was detected following the screening test done by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) with the Health Ministry on students at a tahfiz student’s centre.

“In an investigation conducted, there is no student, teacher or staff from the tahfiz centre had a history of attending the tabligh gathering at Masjid Seri Petaling in February,” he said at the press conference held here today.

Dr. Noor Hisham also said, the gathering at Masjid Seri Petaling had recorded 3,373 Covid-19 cases from a total of 41,491 samples taken.

Meanwhile, he said, the Ministry has done an active case detection to identify the close contacts of the six infected persons at the Cheras flat. The detection process involves 120 persons that have been screened with six detected positives, 76 negative while 38 waiting for results.

On the latest situation of COVID-19 cases, Dr. Noor Hisham said, there were 66 discharged today (June 2) bringing the accumulative total to 6,470 or 82.14% while 20 new cases were recorded bringing the total to 7,877 while 1,292 cases were still active. From that, six were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) while two needed respiratory aids.

“From the 20 new cases, 15 were imported while only five were local transmissions involving the Malaysians,” he said.

He added, there is no death case today bringing the death toll remaining at 115 for more than 10 days. –Malaysia World News
