LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (pic) has on Monday admitted to hospital intensive care unit (ICU), 10 days after confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID-19 (on March 27).
Reports say that he is currently receiving treatments and tests in the ICU as his coronavirus symptoms have worsened.
However, his office said it was just a “precautionary step,” not an emergency admission, on advice of his doctor.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab took over Johnson duties, Downing Street said.
Raab also said that Johnson is “in safe hands” at St Thomas’ Hospital in central London.
In a tweet from hospital on Monday, Johnson said he was “in good spirits” and thanked the medical staff looking after him.
The prime minister health condition sparked worry and concern in the country that is battling to contain the spread of the virus.
On March 3, Johnson wrote and posted on his Facebook: ” I fully understand the public’s concerns about the global spread of coronavirus, and it is likely to become more significant in the coming weeks.”
“Keeping the country safe is our overriding priority and today’s plan means we are committed to doing everything possible – based on the advice of our world-leading scientific experts – to prepare for all eventualities,” he added – Malaysia World News
