Malaysian govt extends MCO another two weeks till April 14

PUTRAJAYA MAR 25: The Movement Control Order (MCO) has been extended another two weeks till April 14, announced the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.

Muhyiddin said the extension of the MCO has been decided by the government following the trend of COVID-19 is on the rise compared to the earlier stage of the infection.

“In view of the rising trend of COVID-19, the Ministry of Heath has decided to carry out a mass health scanning on members of the public in high risk areas or red zone,” he said in a special deliberation on the COVID-19 today.

The Prime Minister added, the extension of MCO is announced earlier so that the people are mentally and physically prepared to stay at home for a longer period of time.

“On Friday the Economic Stimulus Package Cares for the People that covers all levels of the society including taxi drivers, farmers, fishermen, fish mongers, banana fritters’ sellers and others will be announced.

“The government will do its best to help the people across the board and ensure that nobody is left from getting the benefits from the Package,” he added positively.

Regarding COVID-19 cases, Muhyiddin said, in view of the rise of the infections to 673 cases within a week with 17 deaths including a doctor, the numbers of positive cases will continue to rise if the government is not doing anything about it.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Health is preparing 3,585 beds in 34 hospitals to cater for COVID-19 positive cases if the rising trend is worsened.

Muhyiddin also urged volunteers to come forward to help the medical staffs including doctors and nurses to take a break phase by phase.

“They need some rest and to see their families back home. The volunteers are only on temporary stint,” he said.

He also urged the non-governmental organizations (NGO) and charity bodies to do their part to help the needies in this difficult time.

Muhyiddin added, he has requested the Federal Territory Zakat Division to identify the “Asnaf Group” to help them with their daily necessities.-Malaysia World News
