Malaysia cancels all events and gatherings after many people tested positive for coronavirus

PUTRAJAYA MAR 13: All international meetings, sports event, social and religious programmes should be cancelled or postponed depending on the situation until April 30 following COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, the government has made the decision as COVID-19 has reached the second wave where there are 175 new cases in Malaysia.

 “Following the high rise in COVID-19 infections globally, the World Health Organization has declared it as a pandemic in March 11,” said Muhyiddin in a special deliberation aired on TV1 this evening.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin has also directed the Ministry of Education to cancel any form of gathering to prevent the deadly virus from spreading.

Nevertheless. Muhyiddin said the government will review and study the COVID-19 situation after April.

“The COVID-19 is not going to disappear shortly but will stay for a long time.
For that all Malaysians are sanctioned to travel to three seriously affected territories in China including Hubei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Hokkaido in Japan, Italy, Iran and Republic of Korea,” said Muhyiddin.

The eight Prime Minister also stressed that the pandemic has affected the tourism industry badly and from January to February 2020, the estimated losses is valued at RM3.3 billion.

“The Gross Domestic Productivity (GDP) has also dropped 0.8 until 1.2% and as such the value has reduced RM10.8 billion till RM17.3 billion within a short period,” he reiterated.

Muhyiddin also advised the people including family members and children to be healthy by washing their hands frequently and follow closely the Ministry of Health’s instructions on COVID-19.

Regarding Malaysians living in the affected COVID-19 countries, Muhyiddin said the government is in the process to bring back 323 citizens from Italy, 107 already brought back from other countries and 65 from Iran.- Malaysia World News
