PUTRAJAYA MAR.11: Perikatan Nasional (PN) government will form an Economic Action Council (EAC) that will meet every Monday to study and find remedies to help and overcome any current pressing issues faced by the people.
Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, whatever is the decision of EAC if necessary will be forwarded to the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday for further action.
The EAC will consist of Senior Ministers including Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (Minister of International Trade and Industry) Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz (Minister of Finance) Governor of Bank Negara; Dato’ Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Minister of Economy in the Prime Minister’s Department) and any individual who is expert in the specific field.
“We have several issues such as the bad economic situation, the low oil price that will obviously affect the government fund, and COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the social and economic position of the people,” he said in a media conference after chairing the first Cabinet meeting at his office here today.
Muhyiddin added, the government will act fast and for that, any issue, especially concerning the B40 category who have suffered from the high cost of living for some time, should be addressed.
The government he said will revise and improve the Economic Stimulus Package that has been launched by the former PH government. Assistance will be given to the focused group regardless of race and religion.
He also stressed that the government policies will be announced in a week or two so that the people and the investors will know the government’s direction.
The Prime Minister explained that they have no manifesto and the new government is formed in an extraordinary way.
“We (ministers) are working hard to help the people including those in Sabah and Sarawak. Any form of assistance will be delivered the soonest. Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili is appointed the Minister of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs in the PM’s Department to handle issues concerning both states,” said Muhyiddin.
Regarding COVID-19 pandemic, Muhyiddin said, he will launch the COVID-19 Fund to help victims who have lost their income during the 14 days quarantine.
“The government is allocating RM1 million to assist COVID-19 victims who have lost their income due to virus infection,” he reiterated.
Since Muhyiddin has emphasized that the new government is of high integrity,all Ministers are required to sign an oath to ensure their commitment in fighting corruption.
“All ministers have to declare their property to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) within one month and that practice has been going on since a long time ago,” he added. –Malaysia Wold News
