Drunk drivers will be fined up to RM100,000 and jailed 20 years – LGE

 Malaysia government is planning to pass a more severe law against motorists found drunk or drugged while driving.

Such dangerous, drunk drivers causing death on the road will be fined a penalty of up to RM100,000 and jailed up to 20 years, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix).

“The government is looking at amending the penalty under Section 41 (of the Road Transport Act 1987) for those who cause accidents leading to death due to driving in a drunken state,” he told reporters after visiting the family of a road victim.

Currently, the penalty is a jail sentence of up to 10 years and fine up to RM20,000, The amendment to toughen the law is necessary to reduce the number of road casualty and accidents.
