Dr M wants to step down as he turns 95 this year

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has made it clear today that he has to resign this year as he can not lead the country at the age of 95.

He reiterated that he will step down this year in November after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Kuala Lumpur.

“I’m 94, in a few months I’ll be 95.

Mana boleh tahan? (how can I work that long?).

“I promised to step down after the Apec summit. I will keep my promise,” Malaysiakini quoted him as saying when he met reporters at an event in Langkawi today.

Dr. Mahathir was responding to speculations that 138 MPs from PAS, a group from Umno and a small number from PKR support him to remain as the prime minister for a full term.

He also said the transition of power between him and PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim would be finalised at Pakatan Harapan leadership council meeting next week.
