Many Malaysian people and critics are wondering why Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had a private meeting with the opposition UMNO MPs last night in his official residence in Putrajaya.
The meeting took place just after the shocking defeat of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Tanjung Piai by-elections on Saturday.
Azmin reportedly met with 22 Umno MPs, including Hishammuddin, at the minister’s house in Putrajaya last night.
Sources said Azmin is trying to convince UMNO MPs to support the Prime Minister Dr Mahathir to stay in power for a full term of 5 years as the latter is being pressured by many PKR leaders to step down and hand power to Anwar Ibrahim as soon as possible.
Some politicians and critics are accusing Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who seems to have good relationship with the Azmin, of masterminding the meeting.
There were rumours that Hishammuddin has been trying to form a new government through a realignment of political forces, which PH critics have termed “a government by the back door”, according to local media.
He denies the accusations, saying “It was not him who planned the meeting. But, if the Umno’s disciplinary board wants to investigate me, I am ready.”
Last year, Azmin and Hishammuddin met also in Marrakech, Morocco. But nobody knows why the opposition MP is meeting the minister there.
PKR’s leadership has called this morning for political bureau meeting tomorrow (Wednesday Nov 20) night following the meeting between several Barisan Nasional MPs and Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, The Star reported this morning.
Tensions has riffed following PH defeat in Tanjung Piai by-election by BN that won with landslide. This is PH`s fourth time defeat in by-elections since they took power on May 2018.
Malaysians seems to be not satisfied with Pakatan Harapan government which could not fulfil its promises.
