MALAYSIAN SUPPORTING BARISAN NASIONAL

Malaysia’s ruling coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been defeated by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the recent by-elections for the fourth time, which prompted many political analysts and critics to put many questions marks.

Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng yesterday won the Tanjung Piai by-election with a majority of 15,086 votes, leaving Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia`s candidate Karminie Sardinie blowing the wind.

The former two-term Tanjung Piai MP Wee got a total of 25,466 votes, whereas PH/Bersatu candidate Karmaine Sardini obtained only 10,380 votes, which is a shocking defeat for Bersatu and its coalition PH.

This was Bersatu’s second defeat, after the Semenyih by-election.

Losing to Barisan Nasional Datuk Wee Jeck Seng by landslide must be a depressing indicator that Malaysians are rejecting Bersatu which is losing its influences due to slow performance and management.

Bersatu has recently been seen by many commentators and critics as making a lot mistakes among them lack of connection with the rakyat; inexperienced leaders and staff; Dr Mahathir’s attendance and endorsement of Malay Dignity Congress and his failure in the international diplomatic arena that led to India boycotting Malaysia`s palm oil and USA putting a lot of restriction on Malaysia airlines and economy; and the introduction of khat to national schools by Education Minister Maszlee Malik.

Voting for BN for the fourth time in by-elections since the GE14 could be no more than a protest against the ruling party PH.

DAP’s Lim Kit Siang described the result of Johor parliamentary by-election as `“devastating” as it shows that Malaysians are frustrated with Pakatan Harapan’s slow pace of reforms.

“The devastating result of Tanjung Piai by-election is a wakening sign to urgently review and implement the reforms promised by Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election Manifesto,” he said.

Now BN enjoys having another ethnic Chinese MP in the parliament which make it a stronger opposition coalition.

However, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Mohamad Sabu commented that the Tanjung Piai by-election result “will not weaken the spirit of Pakatan Harapan (PH).”

“The result calls for the PH government to continue to improve its governance,” he said – Malaysia World News
