PONTIAN: Barisan Nasional bounced back to power in Tanjung Piai following MCA Division Chief, Dr. Wee Jeck Seng outsted Pakatan Harapan (PH) Karmaine Sardini by a majority of 15,086 votes in the by-election today.
Wee received 25,466 votes while Karmaine 10,384, Datuk Dr. Badrulhisham Abdul Aziz (Berjasa) 850; Wendy Subramaniam of Gerakan 1,707, and Independents namely Aryani Abdul Ghaffar 32 and Dr. Ang Chuan Lock 380 voters.
The by-election took place after the death of PH Member of Parliament Datuk Dr. Farid Md. Rafik on Sept.21.
Dr. Wee has served two terms as MP in Tanjung Piai from 2008 until 2018 but lost to Farid Md. Rafik of Bersatu in a slim margin of 524 votes in the 2018 General Election.
This is the fourth victory for BN after “bashing” PH candidates in three by-elections earlier in Camerom Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau since they won the 2018 General Election.
