Saudi Arabia grants 300 scholarships to Malaysian students and sends its teachers to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Saudi government is granting 300 scholarships to Malaysian undergraduates to pursue their studies in science and technology.

At the same time, the Saudi Arabian government is sending their teachers specializing in English, Mathematics, and Science to Malaysia to teach Malaysian students and gain more teaching experience.

This was announced after Malaysia Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik had recently met with the Saudi Arabia Minister of Education (on 3rd November 2019) when he was sent as a special envoy on behalf of Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to meet with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud and discuss issues related to education.

“Saudi teachers teaching these three subjects will be here to gain teaching experience.

“The meeting was held to exchange ideas and get to know the capabilities of teachers of both countries,” the Education Ministry said in a statement.

The agreement was reached between the Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and Saudi Arabia’s Education Minister Dr Hamad bin Mohammed Al Shaikh, the statement from the ministry said.

 “I would like to share some good news with you all. Today, after meeting Saudi King, King Salman, I later met Saudi Minister of education, Dr Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Shaikh. We changed our views and thoughts on education systems in our countries.

“And more importantly, the ministry of Saudi education has decided to give 300 scholarships to Malaysian students and students in the field of science and technology.

“Saudi Arabia government also agreed to send their teachers of English, Maths, Science to Malaysia for training to prepare for the 21st Century educational system,” Dr Maszlee said in his Facebook (November 3).

The scholarship is available for male and female students who wish to undergo their studies at bachelors, masters or PhD level.

Scholarship recipients will also be given benefits such as monthly allowances, housing allowances, medical insurance and flight tickets, the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM) said in a statement.

Those who are interested to apply for the scholarship can visit the official website of SACM at http://my.moe.gov.sa/ or register directly at the SACM office in Kuala Lumpur.
