KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah of Pahang was today installed as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia while Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah as the Raja Permaisuri Agong.
The installation ceremony took place at Istana Negara in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim here in a unique traditional ceremony and splendour. The installation of Sultan Abdullah has also set in motion the second round of the rotational monarchy system first introduced in 1957 and usher in his five-year reign as King.
Sultan Abdullah succeeded Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan, who stepped down as the head of state on January 6, 2019.The installation ceremony was held at the Balairong Seri of Istana Negara after the inspection of the royal guard of honour by Sultan Abdullah.
Some 700 guests comprising the Rulers, Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers, ambassadors and senior government officers attended the ceremony.The royal guests at the ceremony include the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Meanwhile, His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong in his speech after the installation ceremony appreciated the government’s policy of the “Shared Prosperity Vision 2030” in its effort to eradicate poverty amongst the people.
“Poverty amongst the people should be eradicated as it could slow down or become a problem for the country to progress steadily,” he said.
His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong also stressed the importance of the government to withhold its integrity and good governance to progress for the people and the nation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in his congratulatory speech stressed that the Pakatan Harapan government is working hard to put the economy of Malaysia in its positive perspective.
Dr. Mahathir also emphasized that the government is implementing its developmental programmes for the prosperity of people regardless of race and territory. Since it took over in May 2018 the government is consistently trying its best to make the rising cost of living at the minimal level and affordable by the people.
Tun Mahathir also pointed out that the government is aggressively fighting against corruption and nobody is above the law. -Malaysia World News
