Sabah Umno leader and his actress wife charged with receiving huge bribes

KUALA LUMPUR: MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his actress wife Datin Seri Zizie Izette claimed trial yesterday (Friday 3 May) to three charges of bribes amounting to RM2.8 million.

In the first charge, the Sabah Umno leader Bung Moktar, 60, is accused of taking a bribe of RM2.2 million in cash from one Madhi Abdul Hamid in June 2015 when he (Bung Moktar) was the then director of Felcra Berhad which is owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated.

According to Malay Mail, in the second charge, Bung Moktar is accused of taking a RM262,500 bribe from the same man Madhi Madhi Abdul and at the same year 2015 through a unit trust account under the bank’s investment product Public Islamic Treasures Growth Fund that was registered under his wife’s name, MalayMail added.

In the third charge, Bung Moktar is accused of allegedly  taking another bribe of RM337,500 on June of the same year 2015 from another Public Bank Berhad investment agent Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar via a Public Ittikal Sequel Fund account also registered under his wife’s name, said the news portal.

The penalty for those found guilty of any of the charges under Section 24(1) of the MACC Act is a maximum 20-year jail term, and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the amount of the bribe, whichever is higher.

Bung Moktar was released on bail of RM100,000 with one surety and he was also ordered to surrender his passport until the end of the trial.

June 10 was fixed for case mention.

As for his wife, the actress Datin Seri Zizie Izette Zizie, who was also charged with three counts in a separate courtroom, is accused of allegedly assisting her husband in taking the bribe which is a serious offence.

It is said that Madhi Abdulto, a Public Mutual Berhad investment agent, was introduced through Bung Moktar`s wife.

Zizie was also released on bail of RM100,000 with one surety.

The couple were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah last Wednesday.
