KUALA LUMPUR 16 APRIL: The launching and naming the first Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) owned by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) that was officially graced by the Minister of Defence’s wife, Normah Alwi in Wuhan China on Monday was the traditional event of RMN.
The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) in a statement said, the name “Lady Sponsor” given to the minister’s wife in that event was a normal procedure.
“The launching and naming of the RMN’s ship by a lady has been carried out since RMN was formed and was adjusted according to Islamic Syariah and the Malaysian culture.
“Lady Sponsor” is specially chosen among the wives of distinguished figures like the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and the royal families or Sultan,” said Mindef in its statement today (Monday).
The statement was referring to the news of LMS owned by RMN that was launched by the Defence Minister’s wife in Wuhan China on Sunday that has received critics from netizens in the social media.
The statement added, for the ship’s name that is in conjunction with the state, the person related to the state will be chosen. For example KD Kedah was named by Dato’Seri Tengku Puteri Intan Safinaz, the princess of Sultan Kedah.
In the case of the ship’s name relating to the national hero, a lady who is the heir of the person or a distinguished lady will be chosen, For example Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) 1 that is Maharajalela was named by Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Datuk Salim Davidson.
Meanwhile, the ship KD Tunku Abdul Rahman was named by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor the then Deputy Prime Minister’s wife.
In 1995, KD Jebat was named by Datin Seri Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd. Ali wife of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Meanwhile, Chief of RMN, Datuk Mohd. Reza Mohd. Sany regarded the launching and naming of LMS in Wuhan, China as the success of LMS project.
He said, the success proves the building technology capabilities of the company from China; China Shipbuilding Offshore and International Corporation Ltd. (CSOC) with the cooperation of Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. (BNSSB) are.good.
“I am confident CSOC is able to build four LMS on schedule and with the specifications that have been agreed upon in the contract.
“I hope LMS 1 will enter the RMN inventory on December 2019 and help RMN’s mission in protecting the interests of Malaysia’s maritime.
“Finally, I extend my gratitude to Normah Alwi (Minister of Defence’s wife) for her presence in this historical event,” said Mohd. Reza in a statement in conjunction with the launching of LMS in China. –Malaysia World News
