SERDANG: Johor is not a foreign state or country, it is part of Malaysia, thus the democratically elected government has the right to choose the mentri besar, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir today.
“I believe Johor is part of this country.
“Unless it is a foreign country, I don’t interfere in internal affairs of foreign countries,” said Dr Mahathir to the media after officially launching the Malaysia Autoshow 2019 today.
He was replying to a statement by Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, stating that certain groups should stop meddling in matters of the state.
Yesterday Dr Mahathir also said, Malaysia has a constitutional monarcky not an absolute monarchy, adding that if Sultan of Johor chooses who is to be the Prime Minister or mentri besar, then Malaysia is not a democratic country.
Since the resignation of Johor mentri besar Datuk Osman Sapian last week, there has been much discussion as to whether the Sultan of Johor has the absolute right to appoint a new mentri besar of his choice, the Star reported.
“This government is elected by the people, and this is a democracy.
“They cannot just get rid of the government and substitute it, unless of course you want to drop democracy and become a kleptocracy or become an autocracy,” Dr Mahathir warns those opposition parties who trying to create trouble between PH government and the Royalty.
