Chong Zi Xuen scored 10A in SPM to make her parents happy

KUALA LUMPUR 14th MAR: The teachers and staff of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK), Taman Tasik, Ampang, Selangor have reasons to be proud and happy today as they have successfully groomed 33 students to obtain excellent results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2018 as announced today.

Chong Zi Xuen was awarded the best, outstanding student as she scored 10A including four A+ in Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, History and Principles Accounting and A in Bahasa Melayu, English and Moral Education while A- in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Chee Tuck Weng and Lee Chiao Min scored 9A, whereas Tan Xuan Yan and many others scored 8A.

The daughter of a labourer and a housewife, Zi Xuen, 18, aspires to be an accountant and wants to pursue her studies in a university or college in Malaysia. She has an elder brother who is a Science Foundation student at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

On how she managed to get A in all 10 subjects she took in SPM, she said: “I paid serious attention to the teachers’ instructions while in the class and when at home I revised all the subjects that have been taught at least two hours a day.”

She added, during weekends she revised her lessons at least four hours a day until she sat for the SPM examination. Besides being a hard working student, she was also an active member in the Chinese Language Association and Chess Association.

“This SPM result is indeed for my parent’s happiness. I hope with this result I can help them in future,” said Zi Xuen who came alone to collect her SPM results and achievement award.

Asked what would she do next after this spark, she said she might do foundation in “Accounting” at  YPC International College.

” I have already filled YPC scholarship form and I may consider pursuing my studies there,” she said.

Immediately after SPM`s results revelation, YPC International College offered her and other outstanding students scholarships to pursue their studies in its campus.

According to its representatives who attended the SPM result event, YPC International College Kuala Lumpur and its partner Liverpool John Moores University UK strive to make higher education very affordable and accessible for everyone.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK), Taman Tasik  Principal, Mohamad Zukifli Ahmad Kharman Shah said, the school in its “Champion Programme” has produced 33 students to get 5A -10As in their SPM.

“We had monitored 40 students’ academic results in their Form 4 final examination in 2017 until they sat for SPM examination in 2018 to get quality and excellent students.

“This figure is three times more compared to 2017 SPM result where only 10 students scored 5A-10As in their subjects.

“About 286 students sat for SPM examination in 2018 and even though the National Grade Average (GPN) had dropped to 5.41 compared to 5.38 in 2017 but the number of excellent students had increased to three times,”Mohamad Zulkifli said.

Meanwhile, in Putrajaya, Education Director General, Datuk Dr. Amin Senin said, 8,436 or 2.2% of 421,706 candidates obtained A+, A or A- in all their subjects in SPM. 

“Overall students did better when viewed using the National Grade Average (GPN) and the latest GPN is 4.89 which is better than 2017’s GPN which was 4.9,” he said in a press conference today. –Malaysia World News
