KUALA LUMPUR: A Myanmar man was killed and four others were injured yesterday evening at 5.05pm by a lightning strike at the Setia Badminton Academy’s football field, Shah Alam Malaysia while they were to watch a football match between Rohingya Klang FC (RKFC) and Super Nova FC here.
Klang Utara police chief, ACP Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh, confirmed the lightning hit the victims, and the other injured men were also Myanmar nationals.
One of the victims is in a critical condition; he is in coma at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.
“For now, one victim is confirmed dead, while four more are injured including one who is critical, sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang for further treatment,” ACP Nurulhuda was quoted saying by Kosmo!.
According to Dr. Mary Ann Cooper, a leading expert on lightning injuries, lightning injures more people than it kills. In fact, approximately 90 percent of those lightning hits survive, but often with long-lasting neurological damage.
