KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 — A member of notorious Gang 08 has been arrested yesterday after caught on CCTV while he violently attacked a woman and robbed her in a lift at the Taman Mutiara MRT station last week.
According to a report by the Star, Gang 08 is notorious for drug trafficking and murders. They are targeting members of the public and fighting among themselves.
The MRT suspect is a member of the notorious Gang 08, police revealed yesterday.
“The suspect had confessed to eight cases of robberies, snatch thefts and break-ins around Cheras that were perpetrated alone since 2014,” City police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim told a press conference at the City Contingent Headquarters here.
Initial investigations showed the suspect was a serial criminal with four past convictions in drug abuse and gang robbery, he added.
The suspect, 26, an air-conditioning technician, was arrested at a house in Taman Cheras at 8.10pm yesterday while shaving his head bald.
“This case is considered solved with the suspect’s arrest and we are tracking down his remaining accomplices.
“We therefore advise the public to be careful of their surrounding and avoid quiet places as this gives criminals the opportunity to strike,” Mazlan said.
A video clip of the gang member following a 48-year-old woman into a lift and kicking her before running away with her belongings had gone viral. The victim suffered injuries to several parts of her body.
One of the latest cases involving Gang 08 was on 1st March 2018, where a 39-year-old man was gunned down in front of a school in Serdang in connection with a spat among Gang 08 members and drug trafficking.
On March 29, the media said, the police launched a nationwide crackdown on organised crime leading to the arrest of more than 80 gangsters, including two people with the titles of Datuk Seri and Datuk.
