SEMENYIH: Four candidates will be contesting in the Semenyih by-election to prove their political strength and strategies are well received by the constituents to replace Pakatan Harapan’s State Assemblyman the late Bakhtiar Mohd. Nor who passed away from a heart attack on Jan.11.
The four candidates nominated and announced at Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) Dewan Seri Cempaka this morning (Feb.16) were Muhammad Aiman Zainali,30, from Pakatan Harapan (PH) an engineer and the treasurer of Parti Pribumi Bersatu (BERSATU) Hulu Langat Division and Barisan Nasional (BN)Zakaria Hanafi,58, permanent chairman of Kampung Sesapan Kelubi UMNO branch .
While the other two candidates were Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul, 25, from Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng who would stand as an independent candidate.In the 14th General Election (GE14),
Bakhtiar had won against BN candidate, Johan Abd. Aziz, from PAS Mad Shahmiour Mat Kosim and PSM’s S.Arutchelvanwith a majority of 8,964 votes.
The Semenyih polls is the sixth by-election post-GE14, and the second to be held in 2019 after Cameron Highlands.It is also the fourth by-election for the Selangor state assembly, following Sungai Kandis (Aug 4), Balakong and Seri Setia (jointly held on Sept 8).
The Election Commission has set Feb. 26 for early voting, while polling will be held on 2nd March. –Malaysia World News
