The Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir had been with UMNO for more than five decades. UMNO was his shelter, house, school and promoter.
After leaving UMNO, when he formed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) in 2015, he missed his UMNO friends so much that he feels he must bring them to his new empire at least to accompany him through.
He might feel lonely without them or perhaps he still cannot “get along” with his new people and political partners in Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan (PH). He needs his old friends and people who (maybe) understand him and may make BERSATU much stronger.
Dr. Mahathir has a big heart. Even though these former UMNO people who recently joined BERSATU had once turned against him he still forgives and welcomes them to join his new party.
But where did Dr. Mahathir learn this kindness from?
He learnt it from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader, Anwar Ibrahim. How?
Well, we should not forget that Anwar Ibrahim accepted Dr. Mahathir, the then strong UMNO man to join him when he (Dr. Mahathir) defected from UMNO in 2015.
Anwar Ibrahim not only accepted Dr. Mahathir to be his ally by forming a political coalition Pakatan Harapan but he had forgiven him for what he had done to his political career when both of them were in Barisan Nasional Government and UMNO.
Dr. Mahathir was the first Prime Minister to jail Anwar and sack him from being the Deputy Prime Minister and from UMNO.
What goes around comes around!
However, without these two former UMNO leaders, Pakatan Harapan would not have won the 14th General Election or becomes the government today.
Anwar accepted Dr. Mahathir because he knew the power of this UMNO defector.
And Dr. Mahathir befriended Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) because he knew the power of “reformasi” that Anwar Ibrahim was calling for as many leaders who were “dictators” were toppled by their own people at this era of the Arab Revolution that swept the Islamic world from North Africa to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The rakyat or people have to understand Dr. Mahathir’s politics and strategies. In a war – a trick is better than a physical battle. You can win a war using tricks rather than using physical power as you may “die” while confronting your enemies.
Dr. Mahathir has won the battle/the war against Barisan Nasional (BN), after defeating Najib Razak and UMNO using very clever tricks by alleging Najib and UMNO were corrupted. Well, we call it tricks for now as Najib is still innocent until proven guilty.
People believed Dr. Mahathir and voted for him and the new coalition the Pakatan Harapan.
However, today more Malaysians or voters expressed their disappointment with Dr. Mahathir when he accepted former UMNO members- the party he alleged of corruption – to join BERSATU.
Before the 14th General Election, Dr. Mahathir told Malaysians, activists and NGOs that he would not accept UMNO frogs and he would take them to jail for corruption and destroying the country.
He ran for the 14th general election with the motto “Save Malaysia from Najib and UMNO.” People believed it and voted for him and Pakatan Harapan.
Now, after he won the election, suddenly we see an influx of former UMNO MPs joining BERSATU.
Recently Dr. Mahathir Mohamad announced that Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, Mersing MP Datuk Abdul Latiff Ahmad Sabak Bernam MP Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh, Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikhmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, and Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid joined his party, PPBM (BERSATU) and he gave them party membership.
With the new additions, PPBM will have 22 seats in Parliament compared to Amanah’s 11, local media said.
Now Malaysian, perhaps the voters are just wondering: “Is UMNO still ruling Malaysia under a different brand BERSATU, or UMNO 2.0?” -Malaysia World News
