KUALA LUMPUR: YPC International College has recently launched a new fitness club within the college for students, staff and the local community.

YPC and its partner, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) believe that exercising would make their students and staff more healthier and thus more productive.

YPC International College Principal, Datuk Dr Noel Robert said, the new fitness gym is created basically “to see our students fit and healthy” as a healthy body makes a person more productive.

“At YPC/LJMU, we focus on wholesome graduates who are not only good in academics but also physically fit for any job, able to be engaged in community and team work, and ready to face challenges in the working and business world.

“Students are the human capital for the development of the country. For that, it is very important that we produce good graduates who are able to contribute back to society,” Dr. Noel told Malaysia World News after launching YPC Gym Club and Fitness Facilities here on Wednesday (Jan.30).

In his keynote address, Ismail advised YPC students to appreciate and make use of the fitness facilities that the college provides as it will be of great benefit for them in future.

The gym club that costs more than RM200, 000 is very spacious and equipped with modern gym facilities including spinning bikes, kettlebells, weights and boxing equipments.

Meanwhile, YPC College Fitness Vice President Owen Khat Jia Hoong said that   this club will give them (students) healthier life and help release the stress of studying.

Huge health benefits

It is clear that going to the gym is good for your health and fitness. During exercise we increase our cardiovascular fitness through strengthening our heart and lungs and we increase our strength through creating lean muscle.

YPC recommends 2 hours of moderate exercise per week, including muscle strengthening activities at least twice per week.

Studies show that regular exercise reduces the risk of health concerns and diseases, including:

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes (type II)
  • Depression
  • Stress related illnesses
  1. Access to equipment

One of the big advantages of joining YPC gym is the wide array of equipment available, including cardio machines, strength machines, weights, boxing kits, etc.

A team of friendly students who are expert in sports will be helping other students and staff on how to use the equipment.

Althaf, a member in YPC fitness club, said that this facility will definitely be of great benefit to them, at least it will keep students away from “bad habits” such as smoking and laziness.

The interest in the health and fitness segments has dramatically risen over the last few years so that YPC wants to provide modern facilities and create new lifestyles for its students.

“We have worked hard to get the right type of outlook and feel for a modern gym facility.

“We are looking forward to continue working with the local community and businesses in this area to bring more modern fitness equipment,” Datuk Noel said.

The new facilities and fitness courses at the college are also meant to prepare students to be ready for future employment in various industries.

The main objective of creating this new gym is to ensure students are being taught in a modern environment and are ready academically and physically for today’s industries.

Many YPC students have been competing in various fitness competitions such as marathon, taekwondo and have won many medals. – Malaysia world news
