PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Chairman, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said he would be the Prime Minister on a temporary basis even though there was a proposal that wanted him to complete the five year term until the 15th General Election.
Dr. Mahathir said, any promise made should be abided and must be fulfilled.
“That was an opinion and proposal but I have to fulfill what have been said and promised,” he said relating to the proposal made by a Bersatu representative from Kelantan that wanted him to be the Prime Minister for a five year term.
Dr. Mahathir told the media about his intention to hand over the prime minister post to PKR President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the 2nd Bersatu Annual General Assembly at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today (Dec.30).
However the Prime Minister said he did not know how far the proposal was accepted at the meeting as he saw some members were standing after the proposal was moved.
The proposal for Dr. Mahathir to complete the five year term as the Prime Minister was raised in a closed door wind-up session today.
Before that in a programme “Bicara Minda Sinar Harian” Tun Mahathir had stressed that he would hand over to Anwar Ibrahim to be the eight Prime Minister of Malaysia when the time comes.
“Without other parties, we would not succeed. We only won (GE14) because we had a coalition (Pakatan Harapan) and to have this coalition, we discussed with our partners namely DAP, PKR and Amanah and one of the conditions then was that the PM who was their enemy can only be temporary.
“At that point of time the main thing was to get rid of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. I had to accept the condition to get rid of Najib and we could not do anything as long as Najib was in power.
“The sacrifice that we made then bore fruits. In a struggle, we have to give and take. If we are stubborn and insist, we will be destroyed and will not get what we want,” said Dr. Mahathir as reported by Staronline.
He said that to about 2,000 delegates as he wound up the Annual General Assembly of Bersatu here today.- Malaysia World News
