Malays becoming weak as they have lost the brotherhood spirit – Sultan Nazrin

MELAKA 7 Dis. – The Malay Muslims now appeared to be “trapped” in a race to embarrass one another and are much obsessed in the blame game which only reflects poorly on themselves, says Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

He said, the nation’s political culture now has created a new obsession that is racist in nature or ‘asabiah’ which promotes the thinking that prioritises the loyalty to a certain group rather than to the importance of truth; influencing the minds and giving more importance to a particular group rather than the survival of the ummah as a whole, reported a local news agency here today.

Sultan Nazrin said, the Malay Muslims now seem increasingly weak because they have lost their ukhuwah spirit (brotherhood), weak in character and slowly driven away in the materialistic race and increasingly intoxicated in the competition for power.

“Islam has built the Malay race that is disciplined, trustworthy, honest, noble and sincere. Islam has made the Malays united via building solid brotherhood and emerged as a strong race but today the Malays seem to be getting weaker,” Sultan Nazrin reiterated.

Sultan Nazrin said that in his speech at the appointment of members of the Melaka Islamic Council (Maim) and the Melaka Council of Syariah Court Judge and Registrars in Bandar Hilir here Friday (Dec.7).

Also present were the Yang Di-pertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Dr. Mohd. Khalil Yaakob and Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari. –Malaysia World News
