Relocation of Sri Maha Mariamman temple: 2 men arrested while receiving treatment from injuries

PETALING JAYA –Two men were arrested following a violence that erupted around 2am today (Monday) over the relocation of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ25, Putra Heights here says the Selangor Police Chief.

Datuk Mazlan Mansor said, the two men were arrested while they were seeking treatment at Serdang Hospital for injuries sustained in the 2am incident as reported by a local news agency here.

According to the police,18 cars and two motorcycles were burnt in the incident while a police patrol car was damaged when hurled with stones.

Videos on the incident have also gone viral on the social media.

The protest was to stop the old temple situated in USJ25 from being relocated to another side in USJ23.

However, the protest was under control when the police team rushed to the location.

Free Malaysia Today reported that the protest became aggressive at 2am until 3am where several vehicles have been burnt near the road leading to USJ at Lebuh Raya Elit.  

It was informed that the protest started since October when an alleged developer One City claims that the land belongs to the company and they want to “demolish” the temple.

Following the protest, it was informed that the temple’s followers had a 24 hour guide there while the developer was negotiating with them.

Meanwhile the Police Chief of Subang Jaya District, Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said, the police team rushed to the incident’s location immediately after receiving the information.

“We advise the public not to take any action that is against the law. The Police will do its part according to the law to ensure peace and the public’s safety is being secured in the process of shifting the temple that is more than 140 years,” the police said in a statement today._ Malaysia World News
