KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak sarcastically claimed Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has been optimizing its powers using agencies and media that are under its control to influence the people’s mind to tarnish his name even while waiting for the 1MDB trial.
He also sarcastically said in a post on his Facebook account (on Sunday, Nov.25) that he was lucky that the Internal Security Act (ISA) had been abolished and not charged yet with sodomy amid pending court trial on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
“It is evident that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is using all of its power, along with government agencies and media organisations under their control, to continuously influence the rakyat’s perceptions in an effort to tarnish my name even though the 1MDB case is still pending in court.”
He said that after Auditor General Tan Sri Dr. Madinah Mohamad revealed that the original audit report on 1MDB had been altered.
Madinah in her statement said two deletions were made to the final audit report on 1MDB –one on the financial status of 1MDB and the other on the presence of Jho Low at a meeting of 1MDB board of directors.
She said the directive to make such changes came from Najib’s former private secretary Tan Sri Shukri Salleh on Feb.26, 2016 on the grounds of it being sensitive and to prevent it from being manipulated by the then political opposition.
“If we observe it carefully the Ministry of Finance under me had made a written answer to the Parliament on 21st Disember 2015 to confirm that Jho Low had attended 1MDB meeting in his capacity as a representative of PetroSaudi and on behalf of the Turkey Prince.
“Before that, these facts have been verified, explained and discussed during the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Nov.25,2015,” Najib added.
He also mentioned that the two exposures were made before the date that was alleged in the media statement of the National Audit Department that there were attempts to hide Jho Low’s name in the Audit report.
“It is obvious that there is no attempt from the then government to hide from the PAC members and the people about Jho Low’s presence in one of the 1MDB’s meeting,” he reiterated.
Najib`s lawyer, Shafee has also claimed today that the auditor-general Madinah Mohamad’s revelation that Najib had asked for the audit report on 1MDB to be altered was political in nature.
