Zahid: Quitting UMNO is unwise move in this challenging time

KUALA LUMPUR:  Leaving UMNO while the party is being tested is not a wise and exemplary action as Islam teaches the people to be loyal as long as it does not contradict the Hukum Syara, says UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid said, whatever reasons given by the two Member of Parliaments (MPs) who quit the party were not wise as they were chosen due to UMNO’s trust on them to represent the people.

“Of course UMNO is very disappointed with the quitting of Datuk Seri  Mustafa Mohamed, Member of Parliament for Jeli and Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, MP of Kimanis. Blaming the weaknesses of the party due to certain personal agenda is an unwise move.

“We have to be sincere and have a high “fighting spirit” to ensure the continuity of the party’s struggle,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile the former Deputy Prime Minister urges the UMNO leadership at all levels to stay calm, have peace of mind and continue to have confidence and trust on the party’s leadership to address the issue.

“UMNO follows the progress of the national politics and I personally take seriously the latest happenings within the party,” he added.

He also emphasized that UMNO is holding its General Assembly 2018 at the end of the month (September).

“I would like to stress that after the 14th General Election (GE) the party has taken various efforts to strengthen the confidence and the trust of UMNO members and the people towards the idealism of UMNO’s struggle.

“UMNO will stay with its basic struggle to ensure the social justice and universal values being maintained in line with the multi-racial society in Malaysia. We will take care of the Malays and Bumiputras’ interests as well as to defend other races’ rights in this country.

“As long as we get the majority support, UMNO will continue to fight and struggle in whatever situation even with the current challenging situation,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid then said, UMNO accepts and respects the moves made by the two MPs to quit UMNO and wishes them success and satisfied with their decisions. –Malaysia World News
