KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak questioned the Pakatan Harapan Government of why Petronas’s source of income has been disturbed?

He said, Petronas belongs to Malaysia and its people and as such nobody is allowed to disturb its source of income including the government.

Najib in his facebook today said: “Petronas has petrol stations in most areas in Malaysia and of course with Shell alongside is reasonably a good combination to supply fuel for vehicles belonging to the government.

“If the reason is for the convenience then why Caltex and BHP are being sidelined when they have a number of stations at par with Petron?” asked Najib who is also Member of Parliament for Pekan.

Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Finance in its press statement yesterday (Thursday) said, Petron is not the sole supplier of petrol and diesel for the Federal Government vehicles.

The statement stressed that Petronas and Shell are still the suppliers of petrol for government vehicles since 1997.

The Ministry of Finance was responding to the social media viral on the appointment of Petron Fuel International Sdn. Bhd. (Petron) on August 30.

“The appointment is made through administration as it is involved with operational dealings and does not cause any financial implication to the government.

“With that approval, the government can have more options between Petronas, Shell and Petron and hence opens more opportunities and healthy competitions among petrol and diesel providers/suppliers,” the press statement added.

The statement said, the government does not limit the number of suppliers/providers and as such any capable company that has a network of petrol stations in the whole country can apply.

Earlier on the viral in the social media pointed that the Ministry of Finance has appointed Petron as one of the fuel providers for government vehicles.

The viral pointed out with the contention that Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s son Mirzan is a director in Petron Corporation which owns Petron Malaysia.

Meanwhile news portal Malaysiakini reported that it had verified with government sources that the letter has been distributed to government ministries.

The letter stated that Petrol Fuel International Bhd. (Petron) had been appointed as a fuel provider for government vehicles through indent cards. –Malaysia World News
