KUALA LUMPUR: This time, the independence (Merdeka) is more meaningful; not only the people celebrate the independence from foreign colonialism but from kleptocracy and dictatorship, Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said.
Malaysians should fly the flag “Glorious Stripes” (Jalur Gemilang) at all corners from the cities to the villages, houses, shops, offices, roads and the seas as a symbol of patriotism and the love for the country.
The people should fly the flag as Malaysia is our country and we love Malaysia. Patriotism is a noble feeling.
“The slogan for the two celebrations for independence are “Love My Malaysia” (“Sayangi Malaysiaku”) This slogan is very timely and because of our love for Malaysia, we have worked hard to save our country from kleptocracy.
“Now I repeat, proof your love for Malaysia and fly “Jalur Gemilang.”
“Fly the “Jalur Gemilang” is a symbol of happiness and gratitude for 2018,” he said in his speech in conjunction with the launching of the National Month and Fly “Jalur Gemilang” at Padang Kota Lama, Penang on Saturday evening.
The Prime Minister added, generally the people are relieved and happy because they have been out from various kinds of pressure and torture that nobody expect could affect the country.
“We managed to get back the freedom from the cruelty of the kleptocratic government and this is our extraordinary success. Actually the people freed themselves. They came out courageously to vote against kleptocracy.
“Despite many obstacles and threats, the people were not afraid. The results were unexpectedly successful.
“The people deserve to celebrate their achievements. Not many countries could change the government without riots and the death of political activists. Due to the people’s big success, the former government was inevitably forced to accept the defeat and handed over their power,” Dr. Mahathir reiterated.
Dr. Mahathir said that the success of the people should be celebrated and they have to express their happiness by way of flying the symbol of Malaysia that is “Jalur Gemilang.”
“Let the world see that our country is safe and is saved by the people,” Dr. Mahathir repeated.
Dr. Mahathir also remarked that Malaysia is now burdened with various problems as the former government had abused their powers. The national debts are heavy, the government machineries are spoiled, many people are poor and businesses and trades are down. A lot of time will have to be spent in the efforts to revive the country. However, with the support from the people the government could address all issues in a stable situation.
Dr. Mahathir stressed that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government is not revengeful but it is unavoidable that actions would be taken on those who have brought disaster to this beloved country.
“We will strongly follow the rule of law and abide the laws even though this process will take time. Yes, it is easier and faster if we put aside the laws or abuse it. We do not want to be cruel to anyone.
“Our priority is to uphold justice. This is our promise. We will hold to our promises even though the process of sentencing is slow despite we know that they are guilty,” he said.-Malaysia World News
